executive slacks began in the hot, humid summer of 1980 philadelphia by matt marello, john young and albert ganss, three bored, broke, anxious art students. starting out with performance art in subways, they soon took their angst-ridden act to galleries and night clubs. the band found their moniker in a run-down bookstore after seeing an ad for men

damon bell arrives on dba with a debut three-track ep that delves deep into the musical influences that shape his sound. best known for his output on fellow oaklander aybees deepblak recordings - where he holds the title chief connoisseur- bell has won ardent admirers both with his string of eps and with last year s debut lp blues for the libyan , in addition to releases on r&s sub-label meda fury. the trio of tracks that make up the ankh boogie ep find bell returning to the dynamic african rhythms of his most floor-friendly work, with live instrumentation layered over an electronic pulse. having had his start as a teenager obsessing over afro-cuban jazz and jazz fusion, his long-standing devotion to learning and adapting the music s polyrhythmic sensibilities in his own music, coupled with the voyages of sound deepblak is known for, result in a unique collage of sounds that at various moments can recall the likes of joe claussell, dj qu and ron trent. where the title track plays with sun-kissed melodies and percussive elements, the b1, aural afrek, goes into darker techno territory, while b2 cut time for change is an organ-led house workout.

danny wolfers is stuck in a groove right now, a hugely prolific production groove which has him tossing out new material on a seemingly weekly basis for all manner of labels.
hot on the heels of that nacho patrol 12” for simonetti and a under the cover album for blue moon safari comes this this three track debut for the equally relentless unknown to the unknown label.
the star gazing ep makes for a wondrous display of legowelt’s talent for implementing those trademark melodies within various rhythmic frameworks, in the case of stand out track “visions in my mind”, it’s a hypnotic disco jacker lent no small degree of melancholy by the titular vocal.

farr has a diverse catalogue, with three well-received releases on turbo as well as records with dsnt, leisure system and power vacuum. few producers can claim to have remixed tiga and been remixed by truss.
though farr has an extensive history with bloc., this will be his first outing on the label, a release that incorporates sounds that both bloc and joe are famed for.
the first track, “rpm” features prominently in the bloc festival trailer and is the soundtrack to the 2016 weekender. hissing high hats and an atmospheric baseline quickly develop into an explosive anthem designed to get feet moving. “rolling and thatching” conveys an immediate punch of 90’s acid, followed by techno heavy “workout three” with crunching beats and an unremitting delivery worthy of the berghain dance floor.

some more uncut diamonds by s4aw... robert nedelcu aka lecsicu from rural romania is only 26 but already a skillful and dedicated producer of oldschool-flavoured house music with a tek-edge. on top we ve got vocals by berinika van wyk a singer born in south africa. robert was inspired by guys like rick wade, mr. g, kerri chandler, and of course moodyman. his trademark are strong percussions, little harmonies every now and then and a “tracky” atmo to his tunes that sound very chicago-ish. all three original tunes are pure, vintage-style house music a little on the tech side. so this clearly is an ep for the dancefloor and for early morning sessions when the sun s coming up again... “route to 95” received a groundbreaking rework by detroit house music veteran gari romalis. with incredibly deep subbass sequencies he makes this tune a deep jam like you never heard one befor

the swedish label is back with a three tracker valvet studios production, featuring per hammars sound of dusty dub house. dixies dubb is a straight forward and warm cut with a good amount of chamber-sounding ingredients. argys take on the track is a timeless piece of dubby, stripped and sparkling techno. just as obvious as it is venturous. as the last track on the flip, we find severnaja, that takes us on a mission over an icy surface. the travelling bassline and overheated drums in symbiosis with the melody brings the listener to uninhabited places.
